Office Hours - October 1

With all the parents and guardians and friends and surprise guests around, Zoe figured she'd better be in her office, to field any concerns and answer any questions (hopefully not about certain teachers). She wasn't sure what kind of questions people might have, but that was half the fun of this weekend, really.

"Tyrion?" Zoe asked, thinking of names. "Yes, he's one of our teachers. A very popular one, it seems."

"Is he now?" Jaime looked interested and he stepped a little further into the office. His eyes swept across the room out of habit, seeking out dangers that might be lurking there rather than seeing what was in the office itself.

"His students enjoy his philosophy classes?" he asked. There were different reasons to be popular now and Jaime wanted to make certain it was the right now.

"They seem to be. He has a lot of students in his class, and I haven't received any complaints, which isn't something I can say about all the teachers here," Zoe said, calming down a bit when she saw him looking around the room. She'd been here for so long that she'd forgotten what it was like to be seeing Fandom for the first time, and it was enough to make anyone uneasy.

"He could be scaring them into not complaining," Jaime pointed out. "Or bribe them at the least."

Jaime had no problem intimidating anyone, but his brother tended to lean towards the bribing. Still, it was a good thing to hear that his brother seemed to be fitting in and Jaime's expression softened.

"He didn't seem that scary the last time I spoke to him. And our students don't scare easily," Zoe said. "It's entirely possible he's simply found a way to fit in. That tends to happen a lot around here."

Something that did not come as easily in Westeros. Not for a dwarf. "It is not a place I would have imagined my brother finding a place in," Jaime admitted.

"This is a very...unique place, filled with lots of different kinds of people," Zoe explained. "It makes it easier for people who might not fit in at home to find a place where they're comfortable."

He supposed that Tyrion would fall in that category. "You don't look like you didn't fit in back home," he remarked.

"You'd be surprised," Zoe remarked. "Being a soldier on the losing side of a war doesn't make you real popular in a lot of places."

She may have mentioned the soldier part just to see if she could blow his mind a little more. Wench, really.

"You're one of those fighting wenches?" Jaime was happy to confirm the wench part, yes. "But no, it rarely does. Then again, be of the right family and the new king will accept you right back, giving that you give up some land. The soldiers, no one really cares about those."

Oh look, Zoe was scowling all over again. "That's not quite how it worked where I come from, except for the part about no one really caring about soldiers. I suppose that and officers from the 'right families' are universal."

But she scowled so well, it would be a shame not to give her reason to.

"I've seen it. I just happen to be of the right family and we were on the right side," Jaime said, failing to mention they only changed their sides at the very end.

"Well, now I'm on the right side as well, and in the right position due to working my way up to it," Zoe said. "That way seems a bit more fair."
