Zoe's Office - May 11

The biggest downside to gaining new students was the paperwork, Zoe decided. She was beginning to think something in her drawer was a paper magnet in disguise - not that she'd ever be able to find it under the growing mess.

She was in her office to meet one specific student, but the door was open in case anyone else wanted to drop by.

The Principal's office? Already? He hadn't even done anything here yet!

But at least he knew where the office was. He knocked on the open door frame and leaned inside, putting on a bright smile - 'cause hey, at least he'd be seeing the hot Principal again, right? "You called me in, Ma'am?"

Zoe looked at 494 for a few moments. Of course this was one of the students she had made a note to watch at the Welcome Party. It was funny how that sort of thing always seemed to work out.

"I did, yes. Please, come in and have a seat," she said.

He slid into a chair, managing to look quite innocent suddenly, and curious besides. "Is there a problem, Principal Washburn?"

I'm hoping there isn't," she replied, grabbing a folder from on top of the closest pile. "One of the people in our office red-flagged your paperwork for me. She was curious as to why you don't appear to have a name, and I must admit, I share her curiosity."

"They'd run out by the time I got in line," he said, feeling a little sore on the subject, at the moment.

"Who's 'they'?" Zoe asked, looking to see if the answer was in the paperwork. "You don't have a name at all?"

The paperwork was mysteriously sort of... blank. Ish. There didn't seem to be any indication of anyone sending him to Fandom, in any case.

"Just a designation and a serial tattoo," he said, shrugging and slouching a little in his chair. He'd have to watch himself, or he could get kicked out... Which, honestly, this place seemed fairly safe and not-boring, so he didn't want that to happen just yet.

"Sounds an awful lot like the military," Zoe said, thinking of the Alliance. Shaking her head, she shut the folder and set it back to the side. "I hate to break it to you, but you're going to have to find a name. It doesn't have to be anything complicated, but we can't just have a number on your paperwork."

"Well, so far people have suggested 'Scooter' and 'Peaches'," 494 said, smirking. "It's not exactly easy to pick something to use the rest of your life on no notice."

"Well then, consider this your notice," Zoe replied. "Unless you like 'Peaches' in which case, I'd be more than happy to mark that down."

"Maybe if I had a strong masochistic streak," he said dryly, then brightened. "If you happen to have any suggestions, I'd be willing to give them my full attention and consideration, Ma'am."

"Oh, I'm sure you would," Zoe said, smirking. "Have you met anyone here whose name you've particularly liked?" Not that Zoe was trying to make things harder on the radio staff. That would be cruel.

"I'm leaning towards Dean," 494 said, with very feigned thoughtfulness. "There's just so many - Jason, Jake, Sam, Eric, Jared, and on and on - but none of 'em say me, you know?"

"Maybe Peaches really is your best option," Zoe replied, feigning just as much thoughtfulness.

"Or I could paint a big target on my back and dunk my own head in the toilet - no thanks, Ma'am. But I do appreciate the thought."

Zoe couldn't help but laugh a little. "All right, so Peaches is out." She looked at him for a few more moments, sizing him up, along with his general attitude.

"What about Alec? Like 'smart aleck'? That seems like it might be you," she said, smirking.

494 blinked, then made another thoughtful face, mulling it over. It was kinda gimmicky, but so were X5s. "Alec." He nodded slowly. "I can live with that."

"Really?" Zoe smiled. "Good, because my other suggestion was going to be 'Dick'."

494 - or Alec, now - grinned widely. "Glad I chose Door #1 then." His mood seemed a bit brighter for the sudden turn of events, definitely a weight off his shoulders. "That all you need from me?"

"Yup, that's it," Zoe said, nodding. "If you feel like coming up with a last name, you can, but just the first name is good enough for now. I appreciate you coming in today."

He stood up straight and delivered a crisp salute, still grinning. "Thanks, Principal Washburn. Glad I could help clear things up."

Zoe rolled her eyes at the salute and snickered. "At ease," she teased. "Now go on and enjoy your afternoon."

At some point, someone sneakily dropped a gift (http://www.mountieshop.com/shopexd.asp?id=159) off at the door. It was probably a belated marriage gift, but there's no card as that might have given the identity of the gift bringer away. Then again, the gift bringer might have forgotten the whole video feeds thing.
