The Tower, Wednesday Morning

Zoe lounged on the couch, taking some time to relax before she had to get ready for her day. At the moment, she had a pad of paper in front of her, and was brainstorming ideas for detention, smirking more and more wickedly with every idea she wrote down.

John stood at the kitchen counter with a cup of coffee and watched her with a smile. "You seem to be enjoying yourself."

"I'm plotting evil things to do to misbehaving students. There's nothing about that to not enjoy," Zoe replied.

John chuckled and came over to sit beside her, lifting her feet and resting them in his lap. "Come up with anything good?"

Zoe made a content noise and sprawled out a little more. "I'm thinking about some of the jobs I've been on," she said. "I figure I can probably recreate a scenario or two in the Danger Shop."

"I almost wish I've had a Danger Shop all along," John admitted wryly. "Would've made coming up with punishments for the boys much easier."

"I can only imagine the sorts of things you would have had them do with that kind of technology at your fingertips," Zoe teased. "But you can start thinking towards the future now. Not that I imagine our child will be a troublemaker, of course."

"Oh no, not at all. Her parents have always been perfectly upstanding conformers who never have made any waves," John said, deadpan.

"Never broken any laws, never dealt with any unsavory people, and we sure don't know our way around weapons. Yes, she's going to have pure, angelic genes," Zoe said, laughing.

"Her brothers never get into any trouble after all," John continued. "Never gave me a heart attack with something they've done."

"And they certainly never get themselves kidnapped and require rescuing," she said. "That would be a bad habit to pass down."

"That's definitely a habit that can stop where it is," John said firmly. "And Dean can damn well stop doing it too."

"Surely there's some kind of computer chip we can stick in all three kids, so we can always track them down?"

John laughed at that. "I was just contemplating equipping the boys with GPS yesterday."

John did so, his expression halfway between curiosity and worry.

Zoe took John's hand and put it on her belly, grinning at him. "Tell me you can feel this too. She's moving."

The slow smile that spread across John's face when he felt the movement under his hand was answer enough even before he spoke. "She doesn't like Hortense either?"

"No, I think that's definitely a sign of protest against Hortense," Zoe replied.

"Don't worry," John said, speaking directly to Zoe's stomach. "No Hortense, I promise. Just Grace..." He looked up at Zoe. "We still need a middle name."

For a moment, Zoe thought about suggesting Serenity. And then she thought of how hard Mal would laugh at her if she told him about that name, and changed her mind. "What do you think of Elizabeth?"

John smiled. "It was next on my list in case you didn't like Grace."

"Well then, that seems like it'll work well." Zoe grinned and patted her stomach. "Grace Elizabeth. Is that more to your liking? I hope so, because we're not changing it now."

"Yeah, we have to learn to put our foot down early," John joked.

"She's still going to walk all over us, I can already tell."

"The trick I've found is to not directly into their eyes," John said wryly. "Those can be devestating."

"I'll keep that in mind, for the future, and for dealing with Dean and Sam. Just in case," she said, grinning.
