Zoe's Office - May 29

Zoe had calmed down somewhat after the catharsis of her rant from the previous day. For the moment, letting go of some of her anger and worry allowed her focus on the more important tasks at hand: organizing all of her paperwork for the new students, and dealing with the feeling of being about twenty months pregnant.

"You can come out any time you want now," she murmured, rubbing her hand over her belly. "You don't have to make me wait two more months. Your daddy and I won't mind, I promise."

Dean shot her a quick grin and came in, setting the basket down on her desk. It was full of fresh apple pastries he'd handwavily picked up before heading here.

"Conside this an apology for worrying you?"

"You didn't have to do this," Zoe said. "Not that I don't appreciate the effort," she added, pulling the basket towards her. "But still. Did you have a chance to tell me what was going on, and chose to not do it?"

"Truthfully? It never occurred to me."

"Hrm. That wasn't the answer I was looking for," Zoe replied, taking a bite of pastry. "Why not?"

"The number one rule we had growing up was 'we do what we do and shut up about it,'" Dean explained. "And that went double for any kind of authority."

Zoe frowned softly. "I have a feeling that you aren't the only one with that philosophy around here, unfortunately. I don't think I come off as unapproachable. Most of the time, at least."

"You're not so bad," Dean said, then grinned. "And Dad at least didn't find you unapproachable."

"I'll take 'not so bad' as a compliment, thank you," Zoe said, smirking. "Are you recovering from the weekend all right?"

Dean nodded. "Yeah. It's still sore, but a lot better than when it happened. But the sling is going to get old fast. Although..." Here he grinned conspiratorialy, "Sammy did my laundry last night. I might see if I can get him to detail the Impala before I get rid of this thing."

"Is that one of the perks of being the older brother? Getting to con your younger siblings into doing things for you?"

"Payback for all the times Sammy used those puppy eyes of his to make me cave growing up," Dean said.

"What are you going to do if Grace has that same ability?" Zoe asked, on the verge of laughing. "You might have two people making you cave then."

"I've built some resistance over the last 15 years," Dean said, completely deluding himself.

"I'm going to remember you said that when a tiny baby has you wrapped around her finger. Of course, that's assuming she's ever going to let herself be born," Zoe replied.

"She's not due until July though, right?" Dean asked, checking his facts.

Zoe sighed. "Yes, there's still two long months to go."

"Still, more behind you than in front of you," Dean said trying to be encouraging.

"I see you have your father's habit of trying to apply logic to this," Zoe remarked with a smirk. "Just remember - you can be sensible because you'll never have to go through this."

"In a sane and logical world, yeah," Dean agreed.

Zoe laughed, rubbing her belly again. "It's too bad Grace seems to be asleep at the moment. I'd let you see if you can feel her mighty kicking."
