16 Unicorn Street, Saturday Evening

It wasn't as though the Winchesters had never had a family dinner before. But a dinner for the purpose of meeting a significant other and potentially embarrassing the hell out of one of the boys was a new thing.

That didn't make the thought any less entertaining, of course.

Zoe was grateful for the new Outback in town, because that allowed takeout to be acquired - they were feeding four teenage boys after all - and all she and John had to do was wait for everyone to arrive.

"I know. I just wanted to do this." Peter leaned up to press a kiss to Sam's lips.

Sam relaxed as he kissed Peter back. "I think I needed that, thank you."

"You're welsome," Peter said. He grinned at Sam. "Besides, I figure it's my last chance to get one in before I have to be on best behavior."

"Yeah, we probably shouldn't do that at the house," Sam agreed. "Thanks for agreeing to this, by the way. You could have said no, I would have found a way around it. I still can, if you want to go back to the dorm."

"Are you nuts?" Peter asked. "No, wait, don't answer that. The offer's appreciated but I want to be here, honest."

"I just wanted to make sure." Sam started walking again, and this time, he looked a little less nervous. "Luckily, Grace is too little to squeal about how she saw you outside the house."

"Who'd you think the bribe of cake was for?" Peter teased.

Sam laughed. "Oh, I like the way you think." As they got up to the house, Sam let out one last sigh. "Are you ready?"

"Absolutely," Peter assured him, hoping he wasn't jinxing anything.

Sam smiled softly, and went ahead and knocked on the door.

When John answered the door, he had Grace in his arms.

"Sam-MEE!" she yelled before John could say anything.

"Hi Grace," Sam said, giving her a big grin. "Hey Dad, how's it going?"

"Good." He nodded to Peter. "Peter. Glad you could make it."

"Same here," Peter said. He held up the box that the cake was in. "Where should I put this?"

Peter felt it was wise to start with the bribes early.

"In the kitchen," John said with a smile. "Preferably out of sight before Dean arrives if you want it to last till dessert."

"And up on the counter where Grace can't reach it," Sam said. "Neither she nor Dean understands that dessert comes after dinner yet."

"Subtlety is a good, strong point of yours," Sam said, taking the box and heading inside.
